What this is

Grid Radio renders publicly available Gridcoin blockchain data (block hashes and block metadata) as generative music, in your browser. It is an art project and a technology demonstration. It is not a financial service, not investment advice, not an oracle, and not affiliated with the Gridcoin project beyond running a node like anyone else can.

Chain data is public

Everything the station broadcasts (block heights, hashes, timestamps, transaction counts, difficulty) is already public on the Gridcoin blockchain and readable from any node. Grid Radio adds no information to it and stores nothing of its own beyond the like and play counts described below.

Likes and plays are anonymous

Liking a block sends exactly that: the block’s id. So does counting a play when a block goes on your air. There is no account, no cookie, and no fingerprint. The service keeps a short-lived, in-memory note of which network address liked or played which block, only to count each listener once per day, and a running total per block. Nothing else about you is stored.

No rights in the music

The scores are the deterministic output of a published algorithm applied to public data; the operator claims no copyright in them. Whatever a block’s tune is, it belongs to everyone the way the block does. If “Slow Neutrino” ends up in your film, a credit to the chain would be a nice touch.

As is, no warranty

The service is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind: no promise of availability, accuracy, fitness for any purpose, or musical merit. The station may go silent, move, or shut down at any time without notice.

Mind the volume

The output is synthesized audio with a wide dynamic range. Start at a modest volume, especially on headphones. The chain does not check your levels.
